A new ship, U.S.S. Lytton, joins the Yotsuya's Shipyard fleet. This ship has been designed to be an older vessel, predating the original Star Trek series. (Although of course an excuse was thought up to feature it on this "movie-era" website.)
Pre-refit designs have been added for U.S.S. Colbert, U.S.S. Nightfury, and the not-original-to-Yotsuya's Shipyard design U.S.S. Al Rashid. This should complete the adding of pre-refit designs for all applicable ships currently featured on Yotsuya's Shipyard. In the future, if additional ships classes old enough to require two different configurations are presented, both designs will be created and presented in tandem.
Two more pre-refit designs, this time of official canon ships. However, as ships introduced in the films, the pre-refit designs are conjectural.
U.S.S. Miranda is a conjectural design taken from Vance's Schematics. U.S.S. Kristiansen, on the other hand, is a conjectural design produced by Yoysuya's Shipyard, using parts from Vance's Toolkits (some quite heavily modified). Trying to match the look of the Oberth Class as introduced in the films, but applying an Original Series aesthetic to it, has probably been one of the most challenging designs that has been produced thus far for this website!
The first thing to note is that the website has been somewhat reorganized. When work began on this website, it seemed simple enough to have each ship listed on the menu on the left. As more ships were added, however, the menu became quite long! So ships have now been grouped by type. The ship types are what now appear on the menu, and the ships themselves are on sub-menus.
Now onto a more content based note. This website has been established based on a Classic Trek film era design. However, many of the ships featured here, specifically any that have a registry number lower then 2000, are assumed to have existed during the era of the original television series, as well. Indeed, many of these ships' histories make reference to them having been refitted at some point.
Thus it was thought that it might be fun to produce designs for these ships' original configurations. So far this has been done for four ships: U.S.S. Herodotus, U.S.S. Griffin, U.S.S. Sakura, and U.S.S. Goliath. (Also, U.S.S. Constitution is represented via schematics taken from Vance's Schematics.)
It has been found that the production of these retro designs is just as much of a challenge as making the original designs they are based on. It is quite an interesting process assembling them in such a way that they have the original series design aesthetic, but are also clearly the same ship as the film era design originally presented.
Hopefully, you can enjoy the results! More such classic designs will be forthcoming as time allows.
