Even with advanced transporter systems, shuttle craft still play an important part in Starfleet. Shuttle craft are useful in situations such as transporting delegates during formal diplomatic mission, detailed exploration of an entire star system, or travel to planets with atmospheric phenomena that interfere with transporter systems.
Designed as a replacement for the earlier and somewhat under performing Atlantia Class, the Courage Class is much smaller in size and features less overall shuttle space, but is able to travel to needed destinations much more efficiently. The Courage Class features an interconnected system of six shuttle bays, allowing for quick landing, servicing, and redeployment of craft.
